Since you are 16, you are still growing. My dad grew an inch after he turned 18.
Unfortunately, other than eating right (getting the enough nutrients) there isn't anything you can do to make your self grow taller. Since you are 5'8" and 140 pounds, and google converted your height and weight correctly, you don't need to lose weight. Be concerned about calories or losing weight. It is important that you get the right nutrition in order to grow to your full potential. It is better to be average height than too tall. My dad is 6'3" and he has trouble finding pants that are long enough and shirts with long enough sleeves.
Be sure to get enough calcium. Calcium will help build strong bones and teens need a lot of calcium. go to www.mypyramid.gov to find out your dietary requirements. You don't need to lose any weight. Don't be concerned with calories, you need the nutrients in the food. Cardio exercise is good to do, but not to much of it if you are concerned about growing and you dont need to lose any weight.

I know some pretty short people, and you arent short. It is easier to find clothes that fit when you are your height. My brother is 18 and 5'11". He has trouble finding long sleeve shirts that are long enough. He wears a size 14 shoe and he can't find any sneakers that fit him, so he only wears Doc Martin's boots.
